The Obligation

Bull Run began 7 years ago out of a sense of obligation to friends who served. Despite the desire to set it aside many times, duty compels me to finish.

The Story

BULL RUN, a fictional novel, shifts its focus between two veterans, Hunt and Nick. Hunt, haunted by a war crime he committed, leaves the military, but struggles with life outside of uniform. Nick, outwardly thriving as a family man in New York City, struggles as his world secretly crumbles.

Lost together, the pair travels to Barcelona, attempting to outrun their pasts through debauchery, hysterics and hedonism. However, their lives take an unexpected turn when they encounter two charismatic sisters, Ana Marta and Maria, who bring a semblance of calm. Enter Kyle, who blames Hunt and Nick for his brother Austin’s death and has a knack for trouble.

Their Spanish escapade takes them to Seville, where they’re introduced to bullfighting, and finally to Pamplona, where they become ensnared in Kyle’s obsession to run with the bulls. During San Fermin’s chaotic festival, each is forced to make a choice: Renewal or Ruin.

The Author

The fact that I never went to war almost drove me crazy. I know most people, maybe yourself included, hope to live out their lives without ever having to witness such horror, but sadly, I’m not one of those people. To help me come to terms with my failure, I put pen to paper, but when I started writing, I struggled for years. Then I began sharing my writing, and it became easier. Now, the finish-line is in sight, but I need your help getting there.
